A Bhai Dooj surprise for the sibling who can't come home

Diwali leave got cancelled, the train tickets weren't confirmed, or they've just moved too far. Send them a page full of your bachpan instead.

Bhai Dooj falls right after Diwali, when half the country is travelling and the other half is stuck at work. If you can't do the tilak and the mithai in person, you can still give them something more personal than a 'Happy Bhai Dooj' sticker.

Open When… is a lovely fit: a set of sealed envelopes like 'open when you miss home' or 'open when Mummy scolds you on the phone'. You can lock a few until later dates so they have something to open all year. If you used Ek Dhaaga for Rakhi, Open When… makes a nice second chapter.

Add up to 12 photos, preview everything before paying by UPI, and send the link on WhatsApp. They can write a reply at the end, and you can keep editing the page after sending.

Ideas to put in it

  • Write 'open when you miss Mummy's cooking' and put her recipe for their favourite dish inside.
  • Add a photo of every Bhai Dooj tilak you could find in the family album.
  • Make an envelope called 'open when you need money' and put a UPI transfer note inside.
  • Ask your parents for one line each and add them as a surprise envelope.
  • Lock one envelope until their birthday so it doubles as an early wish.

Questions

Is there a special Bhai Dooj template?

Not yet. Open When… works best for Bhai Dooj today, because you name each envelope yourself. Ek Dhaaga is designed around Rakhi with a thali and rakhi-tying scene.

Can I send it on the morning of Bhai Dooj?

Yes. Most people finish in 10 to 20 minutes, and the link is ready the moment you pay.

Does my brother need to install anything?

No. It opens in his phone browser straight from WhatsApp.
